#51096 - Rolex 'Tiger Striped' Prince Chronometer In 18ct White & Yellow Gold - Extremely Rare Model Year: 1938 Price: SOLD Shipping (Within UK): £7.50 Shipping (Worldwide): £12 Description Gentleman's Rolex Prince in 18ct white and yellow gold with 'Tiger Striped' case. Very rare to find this highly sought after case design at all, let alone in such beautiful, original condition. Model number: 971. Case 18ct white and yellow gold case in very fine, almost mint condition - a very rare event indeed. This particular model is known as the 'big flare' as the white gold lugs are more pronounced than many of the flared Prince variants. Original gold 'fixed' solid strap bars between lugs means this watch requires an open-ended type strap. Rear cover is stamped with model and serial numbers on the outside and Swiss hallmarks for 18ct gold on the inside along with 'Rolex, 25 Records Universels, Geneve, Suisse'. There are also some watchmakers marks scratched on the inside from when the watch was previously serviced. Case dimensions are 24mm across in the middle (26mm at 'flare'), 8mm thick and 43mm lug to lug. Dial & Crystal Old re-finished 2tone dial is in excellent condition with Arabic numbers, gold minute track and matching gold sub seconds dial with 20 second intervals. There is some light ageing around the outside edges but this can only be seen when the dial/movement is out of its case. Original blued steel hands are also in excellent condition with no signs of tarnishing. Crystal is in very good condition with only one or two very light surface marks which are difficult to see. Bracelet/Strap Brand new custom, hand made dark brown Louisiana Alligator leather strap by Hirsch with 18ct solid yellow gold Rolex buckle which we feel reflects the watch's style and vintage. Movement All original, 'Extra Prima' manual winding movement in very fine condition. Movement was recently serviced and is running beautifully and keeping superb time.
